Greektown Casino-Hotel
Introduction
Greektown Casino-Hotel will soon become part of the "Jack" family of properties and may already have done so by the time you read this. One of four casinos in the Detroit/Windsor area, Greektown is a fantastic gaming destination offering a wide variety of slots and table games in a fun atmosphere. In addition, if you step out onto the street, the Greektown District also offers a variety of bars and restaurants for a great night out on the town!
Slot Machines
Greektown offers a great mix between new and old(retro?!) slot machines along with a nicely-sized high limit room. The layout of the casino is in some ways fairly unique, with many nooks that contain machines for you to discover. While I like seeing new releases, it's always great when you can find old classics, like Pay Dirt for example, which is a great game and available multi-denominational all the way to $100 a spin! While not all of their slots are multi-denominational, a good number are, which is something I can appreciate as a player.
Almost ALL slot manufacturers have a presence at Greektown to satisfy your particular mood along with being able to find your favorites. I still love many of the older WMS and IGT titles and they're both well represented.
Dining
Greektown offers finE dining with their Prizm steakhouse and while I haven't been their recently, I recall both good food, excellent service combined with a nice atmosphere. Bistro 555 is attached to the hotel and offers a nice breakfast buffet along with other traditional options. More casual options are currently being renovated if you want something on-the-go!
And while all of the above are respectable options, the best places to eat are actually not on premises, but right across the street, in my humble opinion! Two of my favorites are Fishbones and Red Smoke. Fishbones is just a fun place on a Friday or Saturday night offering great food along with a lively atmosphere. The Gumbo Ya Ya is fantastic and the Saganaki is always a winner, OPA!
Celebrities sometimes frequent Fishbones and one night I was seated next to "Yo Gotti" although I didn't know who he was although someone mentioned it was the case. Upon informing my girlfriend(now wife) at the time that I was next to "Yo Daddy", her and her girlfriends were all on the floor with how I butchered his name: but what can I say, if it was Peter Wolf I would have gotten it right!
Another great option is Red Smoke if you're in the mood for BBQ and is a favorite of mine for lunch to round out the weekend. Located on Monroe Street along with a host of other restaurants and bars, it's great for good food at a reasonable price.
Player's Club
Greektown will soon be part of the ever-expanding "ClubJACK" rewards program and I'm continued to be impressed with the variety of rewards offered to players. Levels include "J", "A", "C", "K" and the elusive "Infinity" level for the real high-rollers out there! You can read about the details of their rewards program at JackEntertainment.com.
By playing, you earn BOTH comp points and cash back, although with a whole slew of other perks including event invitations and annual trips. I also find the monthly offers to be very reasonable with respect to Free Play and also appreciate the weekly events that they have, where your play earns drawing entries where lucky guests get to play games for Free Play and Prizes on both Friday and Saturday nights. Annual trips including airfare are included for players at "K" level and beyond!
There are also many other additional promotions to keep players happy, and I give management a lot of credit for working to continually improve their players club!
What I Like Most
I've also liked the atmosphere of Greektown and the fact that if you decide to exit the casino and be in a fun little district offering a variety of entertainment just makes it a solid choice as a gaming destination. I like the wide variety of both new and classic slot machines along with nicely semi-private high limit areas. Plus the food is great: both Fishbones and Red Smoke are worth the trip alone!
In the immediate area you can also find a few great Barcades including Ready Player 1 and Checker Bar Detroit.
And for what may be what some may consider an odd comment, I have to say the parking garage located right off the highway is easily the best designed garage I've ever used making parking a non-hassle for once.
All in all, one of my favorite gaming destinations!
