To trigger the bonus, you need all tiles in all reels to "break" which primarily occurs by having a winning line. Anytime you have a winning like all tiles beneath that line break. Of course if that was your only method, then the game would be really tough! Thankfully there are two other methods: 2 or more pyramid symbols yield scatter awards which also will break tiles. Finally, randomly the game will pick a tile to break, which is really helpful for those 5th reel hard-to-break tiles.

The bonus itself is a little uninspired as it's basically a "Pick" bonus where you choose squares to yield either boulders, treasure, or a credit award with a level advance. The bonus ends when you pick 3 boulders or complete the final level, which is level 5. During each successive level, credit awards go up. It would have been cool if at the conclusion of the 5th level something special would occur, such as a multiplier or big credit award, like they do in Pay Dirt.
